Inpatient Wound Care

Wound Care Inside Our Hospitals

St. Lawrence Health has a specialized Wound Care team who cares for patients at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Gouverneur Hospital, and Massena Hospital.

They are at the ready to assist in caring for our patients, and work with hospital personnel to assure their patients receiving wound treatments are getting the very best care possible.

Inpatient Wound Care at our hospitals includes:

  • Patient skin assessments
  • Routine dressing changes on patients
  • Providing complicated wound dressing recommendations to colleagues and wound dressings changes
  • Wound vacuum placement on patients
  • Pressure injury prevention interventions and monitoring of patients*
  • Work collaboratively with Hospitalists and providers to address patient wound care needs
  • Pressure injury/wound reassessment of patients
  • Begin ostomy education for all new ostomy patients and ensure they have a smooth transition to outpatient care
  • Assist in discharge planning and transition to out-patient wound care
* Assuring our patients do not develop pressure ulcers, or bed sores, is extremely important to us. To learn more about how we assist our patients in preventing pressure ulcers, or what can be done at home for prevention, you are invited to review our "You and your Family Can Help Prevent Pressure Ulcers" brochure.
