What is Nephrology?

As the study of kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease from diet to medication and renal replacement therapy, nephrology covers a lot of ground. A nephrologist is a medical physician specially trained and licensed in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disorders. You may hear a nephrologist called a “kidney doctor,” and their education takes many years of schooling and additional training–medical school, three years of residency, and then two (or more) years of training in nephrology.

Nephrology disorders we diagnose and treat:

  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Electrolyte imbalances and abnormalities
  • General kidney disease
  • Geriatric nephrology
  • Hypertension
  • Polycystic kidney disease
  • Renal disease

In addition to treating these conditions, we also offer comprehensive dialysis and kidney transplantation (renal replacement therapy).

  • Renal replacement therapy
