Massena Hospital Auxiliary

The Auxiliary is an enthusiastic group of over 100 people who devote time and energy to support the workings of Massena Hospital through financial support, volunteer in-hospital deeds, and/or fundraising efforts within the community. Over the past several years, the Auxiliary has been recognized with the Healthcare Association of New York’s Advocacy Award.

Activities and Services

All members contribute in some way to the Auxiliary through volunteering at (the):

  • Information Desk
  • Beverage Cart
  • Gift Shop
  • Patient Gifts
  • Sewing
  • Special Events

Other areas of volunteering include:

  • Record Keeping, Telephone Work
  • Publicity and/or Community Health Programs
  • Special Fundraisers
  • Baking for Sales
  • Sewing for Patient Project

Massena Hospital Auxiliary Mission

Through the moneys earned in the above-mentioned areas, the Auxiliary fosters an interest in our local medical community by providing scholarships to area high school students for nursing/medical careers. The main focus of the Auxiliary’s efforts, however, is to supplement the Hospital's budget by purchasing medical equipment, or providing funds for renovations and/or redecorating the Hospital.

Past purchases have included micro-scan equipment, operating room table, physical therapy whirlpool, system heart monitor, defibrillator, fetal scalp monitor, patient televisions, mammography equipment, apnea monitor, EKG Vision Holter System and recorder, and patient mattresses.

Other donations include stereotactic mammography, infant security system, pulse oximeter for Surgical Services, suture cart, infant scale, and wheelchairs, along with a VCR and videotapes for Kids Korner Pediatric Center. The Auxiliary has also donated Christmas decorations to share the holiday spirit with patients and staff during this special season.

Becoming a Member

Annual dues of $10 entitles a person to membership status.

The amount of time donated in being an Auxiliary member is individualized. You can be involved in a couple areas of service, or several. 

Luncheon Meetings are held the third Wednesday in May and October, convene at a local restaurant, and typically include an entertaining program. The event provides members with the opportunity to meet new people, renew friendships, and enjoy an afternoon. Notifications are sent to all members, and although meetings are not obligatory, members are encouraged to attend. 

Auxiliary Board meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month, except July and August; all members are welcome to attend.
