Wednesday, September 11, 5:00 pm
St. Lawrence Health System, in conjunction with the St. Lawrence County Suicide Awareness Coalition, will present a dinner panel and short video on suicide awareness and prevention on Wednesday, September 11, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Best Western University Inn in Canton. September is Suicide Awareness Month.
St. Lawrence Health System’s Director of Behavioral Health Jayme Smith, PhD, and Laurie Zweifel, PhD, Psychiatry; Suicide Awareness Coalition Chair Mary Jones, as well as representatives from Reachout will present information and answer questions related to suicide. A short Ted Talk video entitled “How to Start a Conversation about Suicide” will be shown.
According to Ms. Jones, “The high rate of suicide in St. Lawrence County means that we all likely know of someone who has been impacted personally by suicide. Being able to talk about suicide, as well as recognize some possible behavioral indicators, can help us to open up a meaningful and perhaps life-saving dialogue.”
This event is open to the general community and there is no cost for dinner; however, RSVPs are required by September 8. Please contact Community Relations Manager Deborah Chase-Lauther at (315) 261-5413 or firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your seat.
